MATUNGGONG: SMK Matunggong has sustained its outstanding performance, retaining its position as Sabah’s best rural daily secondary school for nine consecutive years.
The school ranked 13th out of 223 in Sabah based on the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results, achieving a 100% pass rate for the sixth year running and improving its School Grade Point Average (GPS) to an impressive 3.34.
Of 141 candidates, 55 students excelled with 5As or better.

Sabah Minister of Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing, Datuk Julita Majungki, said the results demonstrate that rural schools can match excellence across the state.
“This success showcases the students’ discipline and resilience. True achievement stems from a relentless spirit that overcomes challenges,” she stated at the SMK Matunggong Student Awards Ceremony 2025, which she officiated here yesterday.
Julita presented cash incentives to top performers in recognition of their hard work.
She noted the school’s consistent success aligns with her State Election manifesto’s focus on education as a cornerstone of development, crediting ongoing efforts to boost academic standards.
“Background need not dictate destiny, discipline and attitude are the real drivers of success,” she added.
“Discipline fuels progress; consistent effort, however small, leads to triumph.”
Julita praised the school administration and teachers for their unwavering commitment to elevating standards.
The event united students, teachers and parents to celebrate these milestones and inspire future achievements.
