SIPITANG: Sabah Oil and Gas Development Corporation (SOGDC) Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Azmir Datuk Ramli, reaffirmed SOGDC’s commitment to driving sustainable industrial growth in Sabah during an official site visit to the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) led by Deputy Chief Minister III and Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport, Datuk Ewon Benedick.

Speaking during the programme, Mohd Azmir expressed SOGDC’s appreciation to Ewon for leading the official visit and for his strong leadership and continuous support towards Sabah’s industrial development, particularly in Sipitang.

He said the presence of senior ministry officials and investors reflected the State Government’s firm commitment to strengthening Sabah’s industrial and economic transformation.

According to him, SOGIP continues to develop as one of Sabah’s key oil and gas and heavy industry hubs, attracting high-value investments that strengthen downstream industries while creating sustainable, long-term employment opportunities for Sabahans.

He added that the establishment of SOGIP Port, the latest subsidiary of SOGDC, has further enhanced Sabah’s industrial ecosystem by introducing a critical maritime component. Strategically integrated with major developments within SOGIP, the port has improved the State’s trade connectivity and export capabilities, supporting large-scale industrial and energy-related activities.

“Through our port and marine operations, SOGDC is now generating sustainable revenue streams and deepening Sabah’s regional trade integration, while expanding economic participation for local communities in Sipitang and surrounding areas,” he said.

He noted that these developments position Sabah more competitively within the Brunei Darussalam–Indonesia–Malaysia–Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

Mohd Azmir also highlighted another key milestone marked during the visit, namely the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the E-Concern project, which will officially commence later today. He described the project as a major strategic investment that will see the development of an integrated Scheduled Waste Management Hub at SOGIP, further strengthening Sabah’s industrial support infrastructure.

He said the presence of E-Concern at SOGIP would play an important role in enabling responsible and sustainable industrial development by providing essential on-the-ground support for both existing and future investors.

The initiative, he added, is fully aligned with the Sabah State Government’s “Sabah First” approach under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Haji Noor and Datuk Ewon Benedick. The approach emphasises dynamic industrial growth, sustainability, environmental stewardship, and the creation of quality employment opportunities for Sabahans.

Mohd Azmir reaffirmed SOGDC’s commitment to translating these aspirations into tangible economic outcomes for the State and its people, while ensuring that industrial development remains inclusive and sustainable.
