KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Oriental Hotel in Kota Kinabalu is set to welcome football enthusiasts from around the region throughout the duration of the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 as of 11 June onwards.

Marketing Director Fuad Larkins announced that the hotel will install a large LED screen measuring 20 by 20 feet in the lobby to broadcast the matches live.

The screening will be available for the entire 30-day tournament, allowing fans to gather and enjoy the games in a comfortable setting.

The hotel’s lobby, which can accommodate up to 50 people with chairs and coffee tables arranged, will serve as a dedicated viewing area. Guests can order food from the hotel kitchen at that time, which include ala-carte full meal and drinks.

Additionally, visitors will have the opportunity to see an exhibition of football memorabilia curated by a collector from Kuala Lumpur represented by Wong Jin Zhen and Allen Masudal.

The display will feature medals and T-shirts, including one from Pelé Neymar, Spain celebration T-shirt from World Cup 2010 and an armband owned by famous footballer Diego Maradona.

There are also medals from World Cup 1966, among others. They all come with authentication signed certificates.

This initiative aims to create a vibrant atmosphere for football fans during the tournament, offering them a place to cheer for their favourite teams and immerse themselves in football culture.

Fuad said they would be looking into making the area more comfortable and attractive for football enthusiasts at that time.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is scheduled to take place from 11 June to 19 July 2026. It will be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, marking the first time the tournament will be held across three nations.
