KOTA KINABALU: Kampung Skim Cocos and SMK Madai in Kunak will undergo 14 days of enhanced movement control order (EMCO) starting May 1.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the two localities have a cumulative total of 26 Covid-19 cases.

"In Kampung Cocos, a total of 186 individuals have undergone screening and eight of the tests came back positive.

"In SMK Madai, a total of 11 individuals out of 185 tested positive for Covid-19," he said in a statement today.

According to Masidi, a drastic surge of cases was detected in these localities within one week with a high infectivity rate.

"After a joint risk assessment with various agencies in the MCO Technical Committee and on the advice of the Health Ministry, the state government has agreed to implement EMCO in these two localities.

"It is also so that early detection can be done while curbing the spread of the disease among community outside of the said localities."
