SANDAKAN: Following the ongoing upgrading and repair works on the water pipes at the Sandakan Public Market, which have resulted in temporary closure and disruption to traders’ business operations, a request was submitted to the Chairman of Sabah Development Berhad, Datuk Poon Ming Fung @ Frankie, to consider exempting affected hawkers from paying their monthly rental fees.
Acknowledging the financial strain faced by traders during the maintenance period, Datuk Frankie promptly held discussions with the President of the Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS), Walter Kenson.
As a result of the discussion, Kenson, in a show of concern and compassion, agreed to grant a two-month rental exemption to all hawkers at the Sandakan Public Market.
“I deeply appreciate the prompt and considerate action of MPS President Mr Walter Kenson in approving this exemption request. This decision clearly reflects MPS’s concern for the welfare of traders and its strong spirit of cooperation with the community,” said Frankie.
He also expressed hope that the maintenance works would be completed swiftly and smoothly so that the hawkers’ business activities could resume as usual.
