KUALA LUMPUR: U Mobile, Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, has entered into its largest In-Building Coverage (IBC) deployment partnership to date with a single group, IGB Berhad (IGB). Under this collaboration, U Mobile will roll out its next-generation 5G network across 20 IGB properties nationwide, including iconic malls such as Mid Valley Megamall, The Gardens Mall in Kuala Lumpur, and The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey in Johor Bahru.
IGB owns and manages an extensive portfolio of malls, offices, hotels, and residential developments across Malaysia. The 20 IBC sites represent over 70% of its high-traffic locations spanning retail, commercial, and hospitality sectors.
Once deployed, IGB will benefit from seamless 5G connectivity to improve building management and operations, as well as enhance the digital experience for its tenants and visitors.
The availability of 5G throughout these properties unlocks potential solutions that boost building efficiency, security, and offer richer visitor experiences such as augmented and virtual reality shopping and personalised promotions. To realise these benefits, U Mobile and IGB will work closely to develop use cases demonstrating how advanced 5G capabilities can support next-generation smart buildings.
This partnership will also see U Mobile provide 5G indoor access to other telecommunications providers within these buildings, allowing their customers to enjoy seamless, high-speed mobile connectivity across various IGB properties.
“U Mobile has been rapidly expanding our next-generation 5G network coverage because we recognise how vital it is for users to experience the same speed, security, and services indoors as they do outdoors. We are pleased that IGB has placed its trust in our advanced 5G network and recognises how it will improve their building operations and management, as well as enrich the digital experiences of the diverse communities living, working, and visiting these spaces.”
“ In line with our commitment to supporting Malaysia’s broader digital development, we will also make our 5G indoor coverage available to other telcos, as we believe their customers will also seek the same ULTRA5G experience provided by our next-generation network. This collaboration marks the beginning of more indoor and outdoor network deployment partnerships across various sectors in the coming months,” said Kenneth Chang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of U Mobile.
“At IGB, we are dedicated to enhancing the value and operational excellence of our properties to better serve our tenants, customers, and visitors. Our partnership with U Mobile to deploy their advanced 5G network for indoor coverage is a strategic move that not only future-proofs our assets across retail, commercial, and hospitality sectors but also aligns our business with Malaysia’s digital transformation agenda.”
“This collaboration represents a significant milestone in ensuring the best-connected experience in our properties, which has become a fundamental expectation in world-class developments,” said Tan Mei Sian, Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer of IGB Berhad.
