U Mobile Recognised by MBR for Fastest 5G Rollout and Achieves 80% Coverage Ahead of Schedule

KUALA LUMPUR: U Mobile, Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, has been honoured by the Malaysia Book of Records for its rapid 5G deployment, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital infrastructure. During a ceremony today, the company received the title for delivering the fastest 5G network rollout nationwide.

U Mobile’s swift deployment has enabled it to achieve 80% Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA) in less than nine months since the start of its rollout, surpassing expectations and more than three months ahead of its original July 2026 target. This remarkable achievement sets a new benchmark for network deployment speed in Malaysia. The company is also on track to meet its goal of deploying 175 in-building coverage (IBC) sites by July 2026, ensuring comprehensive indoor connectivity alongside its extensive outdoor coverage.

The award was presented at a ceremony attended by Yang Berhormat Puan Teo Nie Ching, Deputy Minister of Communications. In her speech, she highlighted that this recognition reflects U Mobile’s strong leadership, advanced technical capabilities, and industry collaboration. She emphasised that the achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of the Dual 5G Network model in fostering competition, innovation, and improved service quality, aligning with the government’s MADANI vision for reliable, accessible, and affordable connectivity.

Wong Heang Tuck, U Mobile’s Chief Executive Officer, expressed pride in the company’s accomplishments. “U Mobile has a proven track record of winning awards, from being the eight-time recipient of Frost & Sullivan’s Malaysian Mobile Services Company of the Year to being recognised for the Best Prepaid and Best Postpaid plans in 2025. Most recently, we were named the Fastest 5G Network in Malaysia by Ookla for our performance in Q3 and Q4 of 2025.

This new accolade from Malaysia Book of Records further affirms our commitment to accelerating Malaysia’s digital economy and transformation goals.”

Heang Tuck also highlighted the company’s recent launch of the new ULTRA5G plans, which maximise the network’s capabilities.

Incorporating advanced 5G-A technologies, the network offers superior performance and is the first in Malaysia to implement a network-based voice and SMS firewall, successfully blocking over 390 million scam calls and fraudulent messages to date. The company also plans to be the first Malaysian telco to introduce network-embedded Security as a Service (SECaaS).
