CYBERJAYA: The University of Cyberjaya (UoC) has stepped up its commitment to student safety through a stronger partnership with the Sepang District Police Headquarters (IPD Sepang).

The collaboration, cemented during a police visit to the campus yesterday, follows last month’s courtesy call by UoC leaders to IPD Sepang. The police delegation was led by Superintendent Shan Gopal, Deputy Chief of Sepang District Police, and welcomed by Professor Dr David Whitford, Vice-Chancellor of UoC.

The initiative aims to bolster security measures across the University’s eco-friendly campus, including tighter access controls, extended patrols, better incident reporting, and the launch of joint preventive programmes tackling bullying, stalking and other risks.

Professor Whitford praised the police for their swift response to a recent case involving a UoC student, noting:

“IPD Sepang has been proactive and responsive at every step. Their partnership gives confidence to our students, families and neighbours, and it helps maintain the University of Cyberjaya’s reputation as a safe and trusted education hub.”

Superintendent Gopal reaffirmed police backing, adding,

“The University has moved quickly to ensure safety on campus, and we support these efforts. Safety works best when we do it together. Early reporting, clear safeguards and strong awareness make a real difference, especially as concerns about bullying and stalking grow in education settings.”

As part of the partnership, both institutions will coordinate regular safety briefings, awareness campaigns and early intervention efforts. Periodic meetings will also be held to review risks and strengthen prevention.

The move is in line with the Royal Malaysia Police’s slogan, ‘Polis Dan Masyarakat Berpisah Tiada’ (“The Police and the People Are Inseparable”), underlining the shared responsibility of creating a secure campus environment.

By combining police expertise with the University’s community-driven initiatives, the partnership is expected to build trust, prevent harm, and give students and staff greater confidence in their day-to-day campus life.
