PENAMPANG: Several leading candidates took to the polls today to cast their ballots early, reflecting both apprehension and optimism regarding the election results. The early voting phase has attracted widespread attention as a barometer of public sentiment and engagement.

Amid a tightly contested race, candidates expressed a mixture of trepidation and hopefulness. "It's a moment of great responsibility and anticipation," said Dennison R Indang, the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) candidate for Tanjung Aru, who cast his vote in Luyang at 8.30am.

Datuk Wong Thien Fook, also standing for UPKO in the Inanam Constituency, was even earlier, casting his vote at Menggatal Community Hall at 7.50am. "We are hopeful that our efforts and the support of the people will lead to a positive outcome," he stated.

Billy Joe Dominic, another UPKO candidate for Kapayan, was an early voter as well, arriving to cast his ballot at St Michael Penampang at 8am. He was accompanied by friends.
Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin, the UPKO candidate for Moyog, cast his vote alongside his wife, Datin Pornnipa Rattanaruangjit, and their children at SK Kibabaig, Penampang.

Meanwhile, Rowindy Lawrence Odong, standing for UPKO in Membakut, cast her vote at SK Bandau Membakut shortly after 7am.
Voters and observers alike noted the palpable sense of nervous energy surrounding the process. Many candidates emphasised that casting their votes early was not only about fulfilling their civic duty but also about setting a tone of confidence for their supporters.
While uncertainty remains, the prevailing sentiment among candidates is one of cautious optimism, trusting in the democratic process and the collective voice of the electorate.
