PUTRAJAYA: United Kinabalu Progressive Organisation (UPKO)'s Datuk Ewon Benedick and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS)'s Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup who are both newly elected presidents of their respective parties held a meeting today to discuss the future agenda of Sabah.
The two presidents took over the leadership of their respective parties last week.
UPKO and PBRS were previously together in the old Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition from 1994 until 2018. UPKO is now a component party of Pakatan Harapan (PH), while PBRS remains in BN.
However, the two parties are now united through the Federal Unity Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
According to Ewon, the meeting also discussed the cooperation of the two presidents in the development of constituencies through their respective Ministries.
"I will visit the Pensiangan Parliament, which is the constituency represented by Arthur, at the end of this month. Meanwhile, he will visit Kadamaian, the state constituency that I represent, next month.
"We both hope to inspire through cooperation and unification of the people of Sabah so that there will be more focus on developing the people and our region, instead of playing politics all the time. We hope this matter gets the support of the people," he said.
