KOTA KINABALU: The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) today submitted an application to become a component party of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
UPKO president Datuk Ewon Benedick led the party delegation to a meeting with the Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, who is also chairman of GRS, and subsequently handed in the application.
Ewon said UPKO wishes to contribute to the unity and cooperation of Sabah’s local parties to strengthen efforts to develop Sabah’s future and to advocate for rights enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and the Federal Constitution of Malaysia.
“The Sabah First vision championed by UPKO aligns with GRS’s aims under Halatuju Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0, which must be reinforced through closer cooperation and the unity of Sabah’s local parties,” he said.
Ewon added that UPKO’s Supreme Council meeting on 25 May unanimously agreed to apply to become a component party of GRS.
