KOTA KINABALU: Sandakan MP, Vivian Wong Shir Yee, expressed her thanks and appreciation to the Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke, for the opportunity and trust placed in her to serve in Sabah’s commercial vehicle industry as Chair of the Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP Sabah) from 2024 until 6 June 2026.

She also thanked all LPKP Sabah staff for their cooperation throughout her tenure.

Vivian said she is confident the new LPKP Sabah leadership will continue efforts to strengthen policy and improve service quality for the benefit of the public and relevant industry stakeholders in Sabah.

She made the remarks after visiting the LPKP Sabah office on Friday.

During her two years as chair of LPKP Sabah, her achievements and initiatives with the LPKP Sabah team included successfully coordinating policy alignment between LPKP Sabah and LPKP Sarawak.

They also coordinated cross‑border issues between Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam to strengthen the logistics industry.

They resolved issues concerning airport taxis, including cabotage and the addition of more vehicle colour options.

Other initiatives included resolving metered taxi issues by reclassifying them as the “Sectional Hire Car” category without requiring a change of vehicle colour, thereby reducing drivers’ cost burdens.

They simplified licence application and renewal processes by reducing excessive documentation requirements.

The online iSPKP application, launched in January 2024 to facilitate licensing matters, was also implemented.

They improved commercial vehicle safety through the implementation of GPS systems and MIROS TrackScore.

Under Vivian’s leadership, LPKP continuously worked to coordinate and address various operational issues faced by the container transport (trailer) industry and maintained close cooperation with stakeholders to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the state’s logistics sector.

They also approved the provision of executive express bus services.

Other accomplishments include launching the Sabah Hop‑On Hop‑Off Bus service, coordinating and resolving route issues for the Sabah Integrated Bus System (SBST), launching the Bas.My d service on 11 October 2025, and reopening coach (charter bus) licence applications with more specific, focused licensing conditions.

She secured approval from the Sabah State Cabinet for initiatives to construct new bus stops and upgrade existing stops on SBST routes, involving an allocation of RM3.7 million.

Other achievements were re‑coordinating routes and contract terms for ISBSF, and coordinating and resolving various issues related to e‑Hailing services, including assistance with monthly fuel subsidy applications.

They also coordinated and resolved issues concerning stage bus licences and taxi services.

Vivian added that although many policies, initiatives and improvements were successfully implemented during her tenure, she believes there is still room for further enhancement.

This aligns with developments in Sabah’s public transport and logistics industries.
