Women achievements lauded

KOTA KINABALU: Women play an important role in the socio-economic development in the world and many are high performing in institutions of higher learning.


The Kota Kinabalu City Hall (KKCH) Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah said this when officiating the Inner Wheel Club of Kota Kinabalu (IWCKK) 70th anniversary and 70th installation.


He emphasised that Malaysia’s development plan priorities enhancing women's involvement in the workforce and in critical decision-making roles.


Furthermore, he highlighted the enhanced support provided to widows, single mothers, and individuals with lower incomes.


"This initiative aims to ensure that the marginalized segments of society are not overlooked. It resonates well with Inner Wheel's core values of fostering genuine camaraderie, offering personal assistance, and promoting global comprehension," he stated.


The Inner Wheel Club of Kota Kinabalu (IWCKK), the world’s largest women’s international organization, celebrated its 70th anniversary and 70th installation on Saturday at a hotel.


The celebration included sponsorships of RM5,000 to the Community Learning Centre (CLC) of Kampung Tinangol, Kudat, to buy tables and chairs, and RM2,900 to CLC Kampung Kipouvo, Penampang, for the replacement of plywood walls and fixing of leaking ceilings and roofs.


These sponsorships are part of their social and community projects.


IWCKK also donated RM2,000 to the KKCH green movement for planting trees.


The mayor congratulated outgoing president Marie Yee for successfully leading the club and carrying out numerous community projects.


The IWCKK office bearers for 2024-25 are Margaret Awang as President, Datin Tengku Adlina (Vice President), Marie Yee (Immediate Past President), Siti Shaqila Zamzam (Secretary), Atikah Iskandar (Treasurer), Linda Dunstan (ISO), and Margaret Math (Club Correspondent).


The committee members are Datuk Nancy Ho, Daisy Chong, Yvonne Yeo, Sarifah Sihah, Datin Phoebe Barrow, and Teresa Liew
