TUARAN: In celebration of International Women’s Day, Shangri-La Rasa Ria hosted a meaningful community event centred on the theme ‘Give to Gain’, bringing together approximately 60 women from the Tuaran area for a day of mentorship, health and professional empowerment.
The ‘Give to Gain’ initiative underscored the value of mutual support and knowledge-sharing within the local entrepreneurial ecosystem.
By connecting established business leaders with aspiring entrepreneurs, the event fostered a collaborative environment where community spirit drives individual success.

The programme featured keynote sessions by two prominent entrepreneurs, who shared their personal journeys and guiding philosophies. Melissa Lim, founder of Rustic Borneo Craft, spoke on the importance of heritage and community collaboration in building a sustainable brand.
Meanwhile, Datin Dr Jeanette Tambakau, philanthropist and social entrepreneur behind Jari Jari Spa, highlighted the importance of resilience and a positive mindset in overcoming business challenges.
To equip participants with practical, modern tools, members of Shangri-La Rasa Ria’s Marketing Communications team, Shirley Olim and Ainatul Safaini Ramlie, conducted a specialised workshop. Their session focused on how start-ups and small business owners can effectively harness digital marketing and social media platforms to expand their reach and strengthen brand identity in an increasingly competitive landscape.
Fiona Hagan, General Manager of Shangri-La Rasa Ria, reaffirmed the resort’s commitment to supporting women in the Tuaran community.
“At Shangri-La Rasa Ria, we believe true success lies in uplifting those around us. The ‘Give to Gain’ theme reflects our commitment to creating a space where knowledge and opportunity are shared openly,” she said.
“By empowering the women of Tuaran with the right tools and mindset, we are not only supporting individual enterprises, but also strengthening the fabric of our community’s future,” she added.
Beyond the formal sessions, the event also served as a vibrant networking platform, where aspiring entrepreneurs engaged in one-to-one mentorship with experienced leaders, gaining valuable insights on turning business ideas into reality.
Recognising that professional success is closely linked to personal well-being, the celebration also featured representatives from Klinik Kesihatan Tuaran, who provided complimentary health screenings for all participants, highlighting the importance of preventive care.
The ‘Give to Gain’ initiative reflects Shangri-La Rasa Ria’s ongoing commitment to the Tuaran community, offering local women the skills, confidence and connections needed to succeed.
