PENAMPANG: The Persatuan Empati Amal Kebajikan Yakin Penampang has expressed its full support for the courageous and principled action taken by Datuk Ewon Benedick, Member of Parliament for Penampang, who resigned from his ministerial post in defence of Sabah’s Rights , particularly on the issue of the 40% net revenue entitlement due to the state as stipulated in the Federal Constitution.
The association’s president, Rajani Paul Chandran, said Datuk Ewon’s decision reflects the courage of a leader who places principle and the welfare of the people of Sabah above personal position or power.
“We believe his decision embodies the pursuit of fiscal justice and the dignity of the people of Sabah, whose rights have long been denied,” he stated.
The association also urged the Federal Government not to appeal against the High Court’s ruling on Sabah’s 40% revenue entitlement, but instead to fulfil its constitutional obligation and make the appropriate payments to the state government without further delay.
“As a show of solidarity, we stand ready to join the people of Penampang and all Sabahans in peaceful assemblies to demand that the Federal Government immediately honour its responsibility to pay Sabah’s rightful 40% share,” Rajani added.
“We stand firmly behind Datuk Ewon Benedick and all leaders who bravely uphold the principle of ‘Sabah First’—prioritising the rights, dignity, and future of our beloved state.”
