KUALA LUMPUR: The 216th Police Day celebrations held here on Monday featured a pantomime that commemorated the brave officers who died in the Lahad Datu armed incursion in 2013.

The pantomime was performed by more than 80 police personnel who were mostly involved in the operation to repel a group of militants from the southern Philippines who claimed to represent the defunct Sulu sultanate.

Among those who participated in the pantomime were Mohd Akmal Amuruddin, Noor Muhammad Aqil, and Noor Aqib Syahid, the three sons of Asst Supt Zulkifli Mamat who was killed on March 1. Sjn Sabarudin’s sons, were also present.

ASP Zulkifli and Sjn Sabarudin sacrificed their lives in service to the country on March 1 2013, while security forces eliminated 12 intruders at Kampung Tanduo. The following day, an ambush in Kampung Sri Jaya Simunul, Semporna claimed the lives of six police personnel.

The performance depicted the fierce gunfight that took place at Kampung Tanduo, where 68 intruders were also killed by Malaysian forces.

The pantomime moved many spectators to tears, including Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The pantomime was one of the highlights of the celebrations that honored the sacrifices and achievements of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
