PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has strongly condemned the latest Israeli airstrikes on Damascus, describing them as a violation of Syria’s sovereignty and an act that has claimed the lives of innocent civilians.
He said the attacks were also a clear breach of international law and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between Israel and Syria.
“Syria has endured immense suffering over the past decade. Its people deserve peace, not continued violence or external interference,” he said in a statement today.
Anwar stressed that Malaysia stands in full solidarity with the Syrian people and called for an immediate end to all forms of aggression, while urging renewed commitment to the principles of humanity and the rule of law.
According to international media reports, Israeli forces launched strikes on Syrian security units on Monday following their deployment to the city of Suweida.
On Wednesday, Israel reportedly bombed the Syrian military headquarters in Damascus after warning the Islamist-led government in Syria not to interfere with the Druze minority community in Sweida.
