PENAMPANG: Thousands of Catholics in Sabah gathered at churches across the state on Sunday to celebrate Easter, one of the most important Christian festivals of the year.
At Kg Terawi, here, devout Catholics made their way to the Holy Nativity Church. Many of them arrived well before the start of the service to ensure that they got a good seat in the crowded church.
The Easter Sunday service began with a procession led by the priests and altar servers, carrying the Holy Bible and the Cross. The faithful sang hymns and recited prayers, reflecting on the resurrection of Jesus Christ and its significance in their lives.
After the service, many of the worshippers gathered outside the church, exchanging greetings and catching up with friends and family members.
Devotees also received easter eggs which symbolised the importance of the celebration today.
For many Catholics in Sabah, Easter is not just a religious festival but also a time for reflection, renewal, and hope. It is a time to come together as a community, to share their joys and sorrows, and to reaffirm their faith in the risen Christ.
As one worshipper put it, "Easter is a time of great significance for us Catholics. It is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope and light at the end of the tunnel. We come to church to celebrate that hope and to be with our brothers and sisters in Christ."
Overall, Easter Sunday was a day of celebration, reflection, and renewal for Catholics in Sabah. It was a reminder of the power of faith and the resilience of the human spirit, and a testament to the enduring strength of the Catholic community in the state.
