Covid-19: 31 babies, 297 kids aged 1-5 among Sabah's 3,487 new cases today

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 31 babies below the age of one as well as 297 kids aged one to five years old are among the new Covid-19 cases reported in Sabah today, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.


Sabah continues to record daily cases below the 3,000 marks with 3,487 today, pushing the tally of statewide infections to 134,517, he said in a statement today.


Meanwhile, individuals at the age range of 18 years old to 59 years old make up the majority of the caseload today with 2,240 cases.


Of the total cases, 2,846 cases comprised the locals while the rest are non-citizens. A total of 1,992 cases (57.1 per cent) were detected through close contact screening while 856 cases (24.6 per cent) were through symptomatic screening, and 263 cases (7.5 per cent) were through cluster screening.


A total of 10 districts recorded triple-digit cases with the most in Kota Kinabalu (609 cases) followed by Penampang (450), Sandakan (367), Kinabatangan (249), Tawau (215), Papar (185), Tuaran (183), Keningau (128), Lahad Datu (122), and Telupid (74).


Masidi who is also the Covid-19 spokesperson for Sabah stated that a total of 2,557 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 104,181.


"The number of active cases now stands at 4,895 with 3,403 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,434 at hospitals, and the rest in temporary detention centres.


"To date, there are 174 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 78 of them ventilated,” he said.


Unfortunately, the number of Covid-19 fatalities in Sabah continues to rise with 26 deaths recorded today in several districts, namely 11 in Tawau, nine in Kota Kinabalu, three in Putatan, and one each in Pitas, Papar and Keningau.
