Covid-19: Sabah records 1,533 new positive cases, 22 deaths

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah today has dropped to 1,533 compared to yesterday 1,982, bringing the cumulative total of the statewide infection to 182,826.

However, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that Sabah still records a high number of Covid-19 death cases with 22 new cases reported today.


“Of the total death cases today, Sandakan recorded the highest with six new cases, followed by Keningau (three), Kota Kinabalu, Kunak, Lahad Datu and Tawau (two), and one each in Beaufort, Kota Belud, Kota Marudu, Papar and Pitas.


“Close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with 852 which is of the total daily cases.

"This was followed by symptomatic screening (473), cluster screening (73), and the rest is in other categories," he said in a statement today.

Masidi who is also the Covid-19 spokesperson for Sabah said that the number of cases in Category One and Two is 1,497, Category Three (five), Category Four (seven), and Category Five (eight),” he added.

He stated that a total of 3,300 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 156,727.

The number of active cases now stands at 4,226 with 2,641 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,473 at hospitals, seven in private facilities and the rest in temporary detention centres.

"To date, there are 189 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 62 of them ventilated," he added.
