Covid-19: Sabah records 1,728 new cases, 15 casualties

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah is still high as the daily cases are now at 1,728 bringing the cumulative total of the statewide infection to 106,830.


Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that deaths related to the virus also continue to increase with 15 deaths recorded today in several districts in Sabah.


“Close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with 955 which is 55.26per cent of the total daily cases.


"This was followed by symptomatic screening or sporadic cases (461), cluster screening (141), targeted screening (12), and the rest in other categories,” he said in a statement today.


Masidi who is also Covid-19 spokesperson for Sabah also stated that out of the total daily cases today, 1,129 cases had either mild or no symptoms at all.


Meanwhile, he added that a total of 1,508 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 89,704.


The number of active cases now stands at 5,131 with 3,903 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,181 at hospitals, and the rest in temporary detention centres.


"To date, there are 196 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 66 of them ventilated."
