Covid-19: Sabah records 1,784 new cases, 16 deaths

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah today has slightly increased to 1,784, bringing the cumulative total of the statewide infection to 177,296.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that the state reported 16 new Covid-19 death cases today with Kota Kinabalu (10), Papar (two), and one each in Kota Marudu, Tawau, Telupid and Beluran.
“The number of deaths does not necessarily occur within these 24 hours. There are cases of deaths that take time to verify and are reported later than the actual date,” he said in a statement today.
He added that close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with 905 of the total daily cases.
"This was followed by symptomatic screening (719), cluster screening (two), and the rest is in other categories," he said in a statement today.
Masidi who is also the Covid-19 spokesperson for Sabah said that the number of cases in Category One and Two is 1,707, Category Three (10), Category Four (nine), and Category Five with 16 cases,” he added.
He stated that a total of 2,138 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 150,386.
The number of active cases now stands at 4,483 with 2,787 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,614 at hospitals, nine in private facilities and the rest in temporary detention centres.
"To date, there are 190 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 70 of them ventilated."
