Covid-19: Sabah records 38 deaths, 2,430 daily cases

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 deaths in Sabah today shoot up to 38 cases, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.
He said of the total death cases, Sandakan and Keningau each recorded the highest number with seven cases, followed by Kota Kinabalu (six), Penampang and Tawau (four), and one each in Semporna, Pitas, Papar, Kudat, Kalabakan, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu, Tuaran, Kota Belud and Lahad Datu.
“However, the number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah today dropped to 2,430 new cases, a decrease of 164 compared to yesterday's 2,594, bringing the cumulative total of the statewide infection to 150,273.
“Close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with 1,362 which is 56 per cent of the total daily cases.
"This was followed by symptomatic screening (734), cluster screening (156), targeted screening (four), and the rest is in other categories," he said in a statement today.
Masidi who is also the Covid-19 spokesperson for Sabah stated that of the total daily cases today, 2,384 cases had either mild or no symptoms at all.
Meanwhile, Masidi said a total of 2,415 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 117,344.
The number of active cases now stands at 4,885 with 3,283 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,545 at hospitals, six in private facilities and the rest in temporary detention centres.
"To date, there are 235 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 85 of them ventilated."
