COVID-19: SABAH RECORDS FOUR NEW CLUSTERS INVOLVING SEVEN DISTRICTS

KOTA KINABALU: A total of four new Covid-19 clusters were recorded today involving the districts of Kinabatangan, Tuaran, Kota Belud, Beaufort, Papar, Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.


Local Government and Housing Datuk Masidi Manjun said the four clusters have a cumulative total of 100 Covid-19 cases.


The cluster in Kinabatangan is known as the Hamparan cluster with a cumulative total of 27 positive cases, involving infections among workers and family members of a palm oil factory.


"The index case is a 26-year-old woman working in the factory as a quality assurance executive who had been experiencing Covid-19 symptoms since May 25 and tested positive on May 29.


"Close contact screening found 17 positive cases in the workplace while nine cases are the index case's dependants," he said in a statement today.


The Kampung Bolong Baru cluster was detected in Tuaran and Kota Belud following Raya celebration activities which spread to the community and a workplace.


"The index case is a housewife, 28, from Kampung Bolong Baru, Tuaran who had a fever, sore throat, flu, cough and loss of taste since May 22, before testing positive on May 27.


"Following the case, contact screening was conducted since May 27 on 259 close contacts and workers of QL Marine Tuaran.


"A total of 26 cases were registered in Tuaran while seven were detected in Kota Belud, bringing the cumulative total of cases in the cluster to 33.


"According to information, the index case was believed to have contracted the virus from family members during the first and second day of Raya visits in Kampung Bolong Baru, Kampung Rambalang, and Kampung Kota in Tuaran.


Meanwhile. Masidi said the Taman Wawasan cluster was detected in Beaufort, Papar and Kota Kinabalu with a cumulative total of 30 cases.


The index case is a 66-year-old man who had been experiencing Covid-19 symptoms since May 7 but did not seek medical treatment until he tested positive on May 18.


On May 22, close contact screening found two more positive cases in Kota Kinabalu. Both of these close contacts were involved in Raya visit activities in Kampung Tarap, Bongawan.


A family of four living in Taman Wawasan, Beaufort was also found to have contracted the virus, resulting in 16 more positive cases from the residential area. Today, a total of seven new cases were reported.


In Tawau, the Jalan Budi cluster was detected through an individual who first tested negative for Covid-19 through a screening of entry to Sabah on May 19.


However, the index case who is a 37-year-old woman working in Johor had tested positive through screening at the International Entrance on June 2.


Close contact screening found nine more positive cases among her housemates, bringing the cumulative total of cases in the cluster to 10 cases.
