COVID-19: THREE NEW CLUSTERS DETECTED IN SABAH

KOTA KINABALU: Three new Covid-19 clusters were recorded in Sabah today involving 56 cumulative cases in several districts, State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.


Masidi who is also the state government’s spokesperson for Covid-19 said the Tembok Kota Kinabalu clusterwhic was detected in Kota Kinabalu, Papar and Penampang has the highest number of infection with 34 cumulative cases.


He said the cluster was triggered among persons categorised in the high-risk group in the Kepayan Central Prison.


"The index case was an Indonesian male prisoner, 24, who tested positive on June 17 through a screening conducted at the prison.


"Compared with 419 samples taken, 31 positive cases were detected in Kota Kinabalu while Penampang detected two cases and Papar one," he said in a statement today.


For the Linau Kumpang cluster in Kota Belud, a total of 30 positive cases were identified.


"Te index case was a 40-year-old woman who had symptoms like fever, flu and loss of smell since June 11 before testing positive for Covid-19 two days later in Kota Belud Hospital.


"Screening on 55 individuals found 29 more positive cases among family members, close contacts and casual contacts. However, one more test sample is still pending result.


“All positive cases have been referred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment and the district's quarantine centre for isolation," Masidi stated.


The cluster was believed to have been triggered after the index case visited her relative in Kg Linau Kumpang on June 10.


Meanwhile, 12 cases were detected in the Kuarters Bata Durok cluster in Keningau which stemmed from social activities and the index case being a 69-year-old man living in Taman Keningau Ville who tested positive on June 23.


"Following the case, close contact screening found two more positive cases on June 24 and nine more two days after."
