COVID INFECTIONS IN PRISON CAUSE NEW CLUSTER

KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster has emerged in Tawau today known as the Tembok cluster which involves infections in a prison.
In a statement today, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the index case of the cluster is a male detainee who was brought in from the quarantine block of IPD Lahad Datu Jail to Ehsan Block on June 11.
According to Masidi, the prisoner tested positive for Covid-19 on the tenth day of his quarantine.
“Three more positive cases were also recorded after the same screening was conducted among the inmates on June 22,” he said in a statement today.
Following the discovery, close contact screening was conducted on 61 people and found five more positive cases involving three wardens and two inmates bringing the cumulative number of cases to nine.
"Close contact tracing and investigation of causes of infection are still being conducted," he added.
