Today, during the winding-up speech by YB Minister of Finance Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, I rose in the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) to propose that a motion be tabled.
The motion would call for an amendment to the Federal Constitution to allow Sabah to collect all revenues at source, with the Federal Government receiving its 60% share thereafter.
This is the most practical way to end decades of dispute over figures, data, and calculations.
When Sabah collects at source, there is clarity, transparency, and accountability — for Sabah and for the Federation.
If this motion is passed — and even more so if it is unanimous — it will send a clear and powerful message to the Federal Government -
1that Sabah is serious, united, and resolved to settle this matter properly and permanently.
More importantly, it will arm our Members of Parliament with a strong mandate from DUN to push for the necessary constitutional amendments and make this a reality.
This is not posturing.
It is a lawful, institutional step taken through the proper democratic process.
I will do my part to ensure that this motion in DUN happens — because Sabah deserves a system built on facts, not perpetual negotiations over numbers.
