KKIP to develop specific industrial clusters alongside expansion of SBCP

KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) is set to develop specific industrial clusters to complement the expansion of the Sepanggar Bay Container Port (SBCP), according to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.
The 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025) will guide the development, which will aim to capitalise on the spin-offs from logistics and transhipment activities while focusing on downstream industries related to halal and food manufacturing, green technology, automotive, and logistics and distribution.
Speaking at the KKIP Chinese New Year celebration, Joachim expressed satisfaction with KKIP's progress towards keeping pace with global industrial trends.
The Deputy Chief Minister also stressed KKIP's commitment to supporting the government's agenda to establish and create a high-income community, emphasising the importance of sustainable economic activities that provide a brighter future for the people.
Various industries, including aerospace, automotive, and halal and food manufacturing, are already undergoing development in KKIP, with ongoing projects such as the Aerospace MRO and Training Centre, Auto City, and Sabah Integrated Marketplace.
The Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship cum Chairman of KKIP Sdn. Bhd, Phoong Jin Zhe; Group Chief Executive Officer KKIP Sdn Bhd, Lawrence Kimkuan; Senior Manager of Commercial Vehicle Division, Isuzu Malaysia, Chin Hau Yen; Managing Director of Universal Motor (UM), Chok Yun Kiong; and Head of department and agencies, KKIP Investors, Management and staff of UM, and KKIP Sdn Bhd were among those present at the celebration.
