KUALA LUMPUR : Digital travel platform Agoda has unveiled its list of top destinations in Asia for embracing the growing trend of slow travel, with Kuala Lumpur earning a place among the top ten cities where travellers are choosing to unwind and explore at a more relaxed pace.
According to Agoda’s data, collected from bookings made between January and March 2025 across nine Asian markets, the cities with the longest average stays among slow travellers include Rayong in Thailand, Kalegowa in Indonesia, Seoul in South Korea, Tokyo in Japan, Nha Trang in Vietnam, Boracay Island in the Philippines, Taipei in Taiwan, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and Chennai in India. These destinations, ranging from serene coastal towns to vibrant urban centres, exemplify the appeal of slowing down and savouring each moment of the journey.
In Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi have emerged as the top choices for extended stays. Johor Bahru has also entered the top three, overtaking last year’s leader, the Perhentian Islands, which has dropped out of the top rankings. For Malaysian travellers venturing abroad, Tokyo has become the most popular destination for those seeking a slower-paced travel experience.
Fabian Teja, Country Director for Malaysia and Brunei at Agoda, commented:
"As life moves faster, more travellers are embracing the idea of slowing down to truly experience a place rather than just pass through it. Malaysia’s diverse destinations, rich in heritage and cultural offerings, provide the perfect setting for unhurried exploration. At Agoda, we’re proud to support this movement, offering great deals on accommodation and experiences that encourage travellers to pause and appreciate each step of their journey."
