KUALA LUMPUR: A number of demonstrators clad in black shirts, some of them with white hard hats, have started gathering near Dataran Merdeka around 11am for the #Lawan protest.

The participants who are mostly youths are seen to be carrying black flags, while some are toting placards demanding for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his cabinet to step down.

The protestors is also calling for Parliament to continue sitting and automatic loan moratorium for Malaysians.

Despite coming in large crowds, those who are on-site are seen to be maintaining social distance. They were earlier reminded to strictly abide by the Covid-19 preventive measures.

Chants such as "Hidup rakyat" can be heard from videos uploaded by the protesters, sighted by Nabalu News on Twitter.

It was learned that a group of lawyers were also present in their suits on-site to provide legal assistance.

By 11.30am as they marched towards the Dataran Merdeka, the number of participants was believed to have grown to a whopping 800.

Some of them were carrying props of what look like dead bodies wrapped with white clothes. This could be a symbol of the increasing death toll that has been happening in Malaysia as a result of the government's Covid-19 mishandling.

The rally is organised by a coalition of youth groups and civil society called Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat.
