KOTA KINABALU: Sabah serves as a shining example of religious and racial tolerance that should be emulated by other communities in the country.

The harmonious coexistence and unity among its diverse population can be observed through the presence of Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor, Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, and other prominent figures during the Christmas open house event hosted by Datuk Ewon Benedick, the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative, at the Cultural House in Penampang.

In his speech, Ewon, who is also the President of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO), highlighted the significance of events like the open house at the Cultural House in Penampang. Regarding the open house event itself, Ewon stated that it serves as a powerful message to all, indicating the community's deep-rooted love for harmony and peace.

He emphasised that the event was not just a casual gathering in conjunction with Christmas, but a deliberate effort to showcase the unity and solidarity that characterises Sabah. Ewon wanted this message to resonate with all, serving as a testament to the love and respect that the people of Sabah hold for one another.

Sabah, with its rich cultural diversity and religious pluralism, stands as a living testimony to the power of unity and tolerance. The state has embraced its multicultural heritage, recognising the strength that comes from embracing different backgrounds, beliefs, and traditions.

The open house and social sessions, such as the one held at the Cultural House, embody this spirit of inclusivity and provide a platform for people to come together, celebrate diversity, and foster understanding.

Through events like the open house, Sabah showcases its commitment to upholding the values of unity, harmony, and peace. It sends a resounding message to other communities, both within Malaysia and beyond, that peaceful coexistence and respect for diversity are not only possible but essential for building a prosperous and inclusive society.

As Ewon concluded his speech, he expressed his gratitude to all those who attended the open house, recognising their contributions in promoting unity and tolerance. He urged everyone to continue working together, fostering a society where differences are celebrated and embraced, and where harmony and peace prevail.

He was later joined on Stage by the Head of State and his consort Toh Puan Norlidah RM Jasni and the Chief Minister and his wife Datin Julia Salag, as well as VIP guests to cut the cake to celebrate the occasion.
