KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah State Library’s collection of local literary works has been augmented with the addition of books presented by local author Anna Vivienne.

Anna presented her two latest titles, Redemption, Love, and Betrayal and Warp: The Hauntings, to the library’s Director, George Yih Ching Yaw, today for record and archival purposes.

George said the presentation not only underscores the richness of Sabah’s literary talent, but also supports the library’s efforts to promote and preserve local voices and stories for future generations.

“With these additions to the library’s collection, the community gains access to a wider variety of reading materials, which in turn helps cultivate the reading habit.

“These high-quality works also contribute towards improving readers’ command of the English language,” he said at the presentation ceremony here today.

He added that the Sabah State Library remains committed to supporting local writers in producing quality works, particularly those that highlight the heritage and traditions of the people of Sabah.

The ceremony, attended by about 15 people, also witnessed the presentation of a book by another local author, Katharina Tati, with her work Kilauan Mutiara.

Meanwhile, Anna said her two latest titles take readers into explorations of complex relationships, moral dilemmas and supernatural mysteries inspired by local legends and beliefs.

“Through my stories, I hope to reach more readers, especially the youth in this digital age, offering them a glimpse into our past when the world was filled with spirits and ancient beliefs and preserving our cultural stories for future generations,” she said.

Anna, who has more than 35 years of experience as a journalist, said her professional background sharpened her eye for storytelling and detail, which she now channels into crafting compelling short stories.

“Writing has always been my true passion, allowing me to explore dark, suspenseful worlds that captivate and intrigue readers.

“My interest in fiction was sparked by stories my grandmothers shared during my childhood, often centred on legends, folklore, spirits and traditional beliefs. Those tales became the foundation of my writing,” she said.

Her earlier publications include Strange Magic and Supernatural Encounters (2019), launched with the support of then Rural Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick, and Hauntings and Ghostly Whispers (2020), published with assistance from United Tuaran Tourism Association President, Alexander Yee and launched by Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.

To date, Anna has produced seven titles: Strange Magic and Supernatural Encounters; Hauntings and Ghostly Whispers; Scary Tales and Uncanny Encounters; Scary Dark Highways; Haunted Hotels and Dark Doorways; Redemption: Love and Betrayal; and Warp: The Hauntings.
