KOTA KINABALU: The Momogun National Congress (MNC) warmly welcomes and celebrates the recent High Court ruling affirming Sabah’s constitutional right to 40 percent of the federal revenue derived from the state.

MNC’s President, Tan Sri Wences Angang, said in statement that this historic decision is a monumental victory not only for the Government and people of Sabah but for every Momogun and native who has long borne the weight of economic injustice since the formation of Malaysia.

“For decades, Sabah’s rightful revenue share, enshrined under Articles 112C and 112D of the Federal Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) was withheld or diluted, depriving the state of billions in development funds,” he said.

“The Court’s ruling restores the spirit of MA63 and reaffirms that the promises made to Sabah and Sarawak are not political favours, but binding constitutional rights.”

Wences, who is a former Deputy Chief Minister, commended the Sabah Law Society for its courage and perseverance in pursuing this case, calling the judgment “a powerful act of justice that gives back dignity to the people of Sabah.”

He further stressed that the ruling must mark the beginning of a new era of equitable partnership between Sabah and the federal government.

“This is to honour this decision without delay or appeal. To do otherwise would be to betray the trust of the federation and the founding principles of Malaysia,” he said.

Wences added that the additional funds from the 40 percent share must be used transparently and wisely to uplift the Momogun and all native communities who have been left behind.

“Let this victory bring real change, better schools, hospitals, roads, and opportunities for our young people. It is time for the fruits of our land and labour to return to our people,” he urged.

The MNC calls on all Sabah leaders, regardless of political party, to unite in protecting this hard-won right and to ensure its full and proper implementation. The MNC also encourages the federal government to view this not as a setback but as an opportunity to rebuild national unity through fairness and respect for the Federation’s founding agreements.

“This ruling has shown that justice delayed can still be justice delivered. Let us now move forward with wisdom, accountability, and unity, for Sabah, for the Momoguns, and for Malaysia as a fair and equal family of nations,” Wences concluded.

“MNC is looking forward for better future economic participation and upliftment of the Momoguns, who happen to be among the poorest in Sabah."

"With greater opportunities they can contribute more substantially to the development of the state and the country.”
