KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster has emerged in Ranau known as the Timbua cluster involving a community infection.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that the cluster was believed to have started from a gathering of Ibadah Korban ceremony in Timbua Mosque.
“The index case is a 52-year-old cancer patient who tested positive on 23 July through a pre-ward screening. However, the index case’s caretaker was also positive with the virus,” he said in a statement today.
He stated that out of 239 close contacts screened, 48 individuals tested positive including one new case today.
According to Masidi, besides Kg Timbua, the infection had spread to other localities such as Kg Lembah Permai, Kg Kembirol, Kg Merungin 2 and Ranau District Police Office.
