New Venue for Village entrepreneurs

PAPAR: A new Tamu Desa, or Village market, is set to be established along a roadside near Kg Marahang, offering a vibrant marketplace for entrepreneurs in the surrounding area.

Spanning an acre of land, this Tamu Desa is scheduled to commence operations by June 2024, with a diverse range of participants hailing from Kg Tanaki, Kg Tuntul, Kg Kopimpinan Kawang, Kg Gana, and neighbouring villages.


Datuk Gilbert Sham, TEKUN Trustee Member highlighted that the construction of the market grounds received funding amounting to RM250,000 from the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative MEDC).


“This financial support shows the government's commitment to fostering economic growth and entrepreneurship within local communities,” Gilbert said adding that the market to be held daily will showcase a variety of goods, including village farm produce and food items, providing a platform for vendors to showcase their offerings.

He stressed that the establishment of this Tamu Desa aims to empower vendors and entrepreneurs by creating opportunities for them to earn a sustainable income.


He stressed on the significance of such markets in bolstering the local economy, as they not only benefit vendors but also offer consumers access to fresh produce directly from orchards and farms.

By facilitating trade and commerce in an area close to the villages of participants, Tamu Desa is poised to become a hub of economic activity, fostering community engagement and supporting local businesses.


This initiative aligns with the broader goal of promoting entrepreneurship and enhancing economic opportunities for residents in the area.
