KUALA PENYU: The One District One Industry will be implemented with a new direction and strategies.

The Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative (MEDC) Datuk Ewon Benedick said the paper was presented during the Cabinet Meeting a few days ago.

According to him, the Cabinet approved the direction with a view for its implementation.

Speaking to reporters after launching the State Level UPKO Harvest Festival celebration in Kuala Penyu, he said, it is imperative that it focused towards a new approach, with a key focus on enhancing collaboration between the State and federal governments, along with relevant agencies, in identifying industries.

"Our strategy involves concentrating on developing a single product or industry that we believe has the potential for international market entry," Ewon who is also the UPKO President said .

He stressed that the identification of these industries is crucial as they aim to introduce new products and services to the target market.

He added, they are promoting the establishment of cooperatives for entrepreneurs in rural areas engaged in the development of these industries.

"Unlike the previous approach with imposed sales limits, we are now refraining from such restrictions."

"We are committed to support this endeavour, signifying an advancement and a fresh perspective."

"This initiative goes beyond the mere implementation of the "One District, One Industry" programme; it is also about fostering the prosperity of the community. To this end, a budget of 1 billion ringgit has been allocated for this purpose in the current fiscal year."

The Minister later visited the entrepreneurs booth outside the

Dato Shahbandar Makang Hall accompanied by UPKO Secretary General Datuk Nelson Anggang and other notables.
