KUALA LUMPUR: DAP Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran has slammed Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, after Zahid suggested others in the coalition could be charged if Pakatan Harapan (PH) forms the next government.

Kulasegaran said, Zahid’s statement gives the impression that the judiciary is not free and is manipulated by those in power.

He was referring to a video which was widely circulated on social media, depicting Ahmad Zahid Hamidi laughing and mocking the possibility of other BN leaders being charged if PH forms the next government.

“We have heard all the allegations of misappropriation of funds, but what is shocking is that Zahid openly says various BN leaders would be charged, giving the impression that he is aware of these "crimes".

“This is a dangerous insinuation. What is equally as bad are all these leaders laughing along to Zahid's allegations. Can this be considered as admission? Or was this a threat by Zahid to toe the line?”

Kulasegaran also questioned whether the leaders mentioned by Zahid will come forth and refute such allegations.

“Or will they rebuke their president for this tasteless speech? Malaysians are watching,” he asserted.

“Will we see the return of the old, if they take power and Zahid is our next Prime Minister. He is after all the president of Umno, and the likely PM candidate if BN wins,” he added.

In the video, Zahid mentioned Tok Mat (BN Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan MIC president S.A. Vigneswaran, MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong will all be charged.

Kulasegaran said Zahid’s 47 criminal charges which include criminal breach of trust, graft and money laundering that relate to funds belonging to the charitable organisation Yayasan Akalbudi is no laughing matter.

“Which is why, voting for BN, according to Zahid's logic, will set criminals free. Dissolving Parliament and calling for General elections is all about saving and dropping the criminal cases against Zahid. Is this what Malaysian’s want?

“Don't allow UMNO BN to take us for a ride and give their leaders impunity from criminal charges.

We have to vote them out once and for all.

“It’s incumbent on all voters to come in full force to prevent BN from coming back to power,” he stated.
