13 Aug 2021 By Nur Syafiqah Abdullah KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has regarded the rejection of the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda)'s appeal for registration as a political party a political interference. The abrupt decision was issued by Home Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin yesterday. Muda filed its appeal since February. Muda's application for registration as a political party was also rejected by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) without any specific reasons. "Under the illegitimate Perikatan Nasional government, the nation has seen a significant backsliding of democratic practices including the suspension of Parliament. "The failure to grant Muda due process in its application is another example of the assault on Malaysia’s democracy by a government which has demonstrated an appetite to violate all Constitutional norms and ethics in order to cling to power," he said in a press statement, today. Anwar also called upon Hamzah to grant MUDA a fair and objective review under rules of the Societies Act of 1966.
