SABAH COVID CASELOAD DOWN TO 64 FROM 89 YESTERDAY

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah started off the month of May with a reduced daily Covid-19 caseload from 89 reported yesterday to 64 today.


Sabah's Covid-19 official spokesperson Datuk Masidi Manjun said the cumulative total of statewide infections now stands at 58,200.


Tawau recorded the highest number of new cases with 19, followed by Kota Kinabalu (12), Sandakan (10), and Kunak (six).


Lahad Datu, Kalabakan, Papar, Tuaran and Putatan each have three cases while one case was each recorded in Kinabatangan and Kota Belud.


"Of the total, 31 were identified as close contacts, 20 detected in new and existing clusters, 10 through symptomatic screening and three from other categories.


"Sabah also recorded one Covid-19 death today which is in Tawau," he said in a press statement.


According to Masidi, the number of active cases now stands at 694 where 292 at treated at hospitals and 432 in quarantine centres.


"Forty-nine of patients are in the intensive care unit and 17 of them require ventilator support.


"A total of 93 patients have recovered and were discharged, bringing the tally of recoveries in the state to 56,864."
