Sabah daily Covid-19 cases increase to 1,078 with 22 deaths

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah today has slightly increased to 1,078 compared to yesterday's 962, bringing the cumulative total of the statewide infection to 194,264.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the number of Covid-19 death cases is still high with 22 new cases reported today.

He added that of the total death cases today, Sandakan recorded the highest with 10 new cases, followed by Tawau (three), Kudat and Kota Marudu (two) and one each in Lahad Datu, Keningau, Nabawan, Penampang and Kota Kinabalu.

“Close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with 611 which is of the total daily cases.


"This was followed by symptomatic screening (306), cluster screening (36), and the rest is in other categories," he said in a statement today.

Masidi who is also the Covid-19 spokesperson for Sabah said that the number of cases in Category One and Two is 993, Category Three (four), Category Four (12), and Category Five with eight cases,” he added.

He stated that a total of 2,394 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 173,450.

The number of active cases now stands at 3,493 with 2,161 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,286 at hospitals, nine in private facilities and the rest in temporary detention centres.

"To date, there are 151 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 55 of them ventilated," he stated.


Meanwhile, Kampung Bambangan in Telupid will be placed under the 14-day enhanced movement control order (EMCO) starting this Monday (Sept 27).
