KOTA KINABALU: A film production company in Sabah has created a children's activity book that showcases the culture and tourism of Kudat Division.

The book, titled Adventures of Kondiu and Odu, features two bird characters dressed in traditional Kadazandusun attire. The activity book also features various interesting places along the way from Kota Belud to Kudat through several games and illustrations.

The book was designed by Vinoun Films for Rajawali Homes, a hotel in Kota Marudu, as a complimentary gift for children staying with their families.

Vinoun Films co-founder Rachel Ongkili said the book aimed to enrich the family travel experience and spread awareness of Sabah's indigenous language and culture.

She said the company also planned to expand the book series to other divisions in Sabah and to produce children's animation and games based on the characters.

She added that the characters were registered as intellectual property for Vinoun Films.

Rachel and her team recently met with Sabah Tourism Board (STB) Chairman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai to present their book and explore potential collaboration with STB.

Joniston, who is also Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, praised Vinoun Films' creative works and said they could help stimulate economic growth, promote local businesses and preserve Sabah's cultural identity.

He said he hoped to see more animated characters representing all of Sabah's ethnic groups and that STB was keen to work with anyone who could help raise Sabah's profile through educational and cultural tourism
