KOTA KINABALU: The Pakatan Harapan youth chief for Sabah Phoong Jin Zhe said he welcomes the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) for officially joining Pakatan Harapan (PH).

He expressed appreciation and commended Upko's efforts in strengthening the Opposition camp and standing firm in the struggle for the people.

"We have shown great unity since 2018 and the Opposition should continue to be steadfast in pursuing a democratic, progressive and inclusive governance.

Pakatan Harapan has gone through major slumps after the Sheraton Move pulled by defectors in 2020.

"We must continue to keep our heads up and focus on our struggle for the people. In times like these when we face a triple crisis of health, economy and politics, we need unity to prevail. United we stand, divided we fall, we must learn from our mistakes and progress forward," he said in a statement, today.

Earlier today, PH secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the PH presidential council had accepted Upko as its component party.

According to Phoong who is also the DAP Sabah Youth chief, all Opposition leaders need to combine strength to bring a breakthrough for Malaysia.

Without sacrifices from everyone, we will not achieve anything. We need a team of 'Avengers' in times like these to gather everyone together to restore hope and reforms for Sabah and Malaysia.

"Last but not least, we have not much time to spare until the next General Election. We must act quick and work together as one 'Big Tent' coalition to save Sabah and Malaysia," said the State Assemblyman for Luyang.
