Sabah records 1,291 new Covid-19 cases, five fatalities

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah continues to raise with 1,291 cases recorded today, an increase of 229 cases compared to yesterday’s 1,062.


This pushes the cumulative total of statewide infection to 91,201, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.


In a statement today, Masidi close contact screening still records the highest number of daily cases with 772, or 60 per cent.


Meanwhile, symptomatic screening or sporadic infection continue to increase to 299 cases followed by targeted screening (73), cluster screening (70) and the rest in other categories.


“Four districts in Sabah recorded three-digit cases, namely Kota Kinabalu (282), Tawau (177), Penampang (131) and Papar (112).


“Five districts also recorded the number of daily cases exceeding 50, namely Tuaran (96), Sandakan (72), Sipitang (54), Beaufort (54) and Keningau (52). Kinabatangan (21) cases, Kota Belud (28) cases, Putatan (31) and Ranau (40).


Masidi also stated that 91.41 per cent of the total cases either had mild or no symptoms at all.


Meanwhile, Masidi who is also the Covid-19 official spokesperson of Sabah said a total of 770 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 80,597.


The number of active cases now stands at 4,402 with 3,326 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,048 at hospitals, and the rest in temporary detention centres.


"To date, there are 133 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 54 of them ventilated," he added.


Unfortunately, five deaths were reported today involving several districts in Sabah. Three fatalities were reported in Kota Kinabalu, one each in Sandakan and Tawau.
