KOTA KINABALU: A massive sinkhole that occured near Jalan Teluk Likas near here has swallowed up half of the road and the constituency’s MP is not happy about it.
Chan Foong Hin who returned to the city from Labuan today immediately went to the location inspect the sinkhole that occurred for unknown causes.
“The incident occurred near Dewan MAKSAK Likas at around noon today on a road heading towards SM Lok Yuk from the Kota Kinabalu city centre.
“I urge the relevant authorities, including the Mineral and Geosciences Department, the Public Works Department (PWD), and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sabah, to launch a joint operation to thoroughly investigate the cause of the massive sinkhole,” he said in a statement today.
According to Chan, the Unit Tindak DAP Kota Kinabalu had also cordoned off the area around the sinkhole to alert the public and road users about the danger.
He asserted the local authorities to come up with a plan to redirect traffic as soon as possible since the road is located near to the school and that tomorrow is a cooling day.
“I urge the Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Bung Mokthar, to swiftly take actions to remedy the sinkhole problem.”
