KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Henrynus Amin, President of Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri (ANAK NEGERI) today firmly endorsed the appointment of Datuk Roger Chin as one of the six Nominated Assemblymen, describing the selection as both apt and appropriate.

Henrynus highlighted that Datuk Roger Chin, in his capacity as a respected non-governmental organization (NGO) leader, brings a critical and specialized expertise to the State Legislative Assembly, particularly concerning the Malaysia Agreement (MA63) and, specifically, the crucial issue of the 40% special grant claim for Sabah.

"Datuk Roger Chin represents an NGO that is fundamentally apolitical yet offers an unparalleled depth of knowledge," Henrynus stated.

"His unique understanding and skills in manoeuvring the intricate legal and political battles surrounding the Malaysia Agreement make him an invaluable asset to the state government and the people of Sabah."

Henrynus firmly believes that with his new role as a Nominated Assemblyman and advisor, Datuk Roger Chin will have better, more direct access to the Chief Minister. This enhanced access is crucial for translating policy advocacy into effective governance, especially given the significant role his NGO, the Sabah Law Society (SLS), plays as a crucial component and advocate in policy-making processes related to the Malaysia Agreement.

Henrynus therefore applauded the Sabah Chief Minister for appointing Datuk Roger Chin as a nominated State Assemblyman representing the NGOs, and categorically rejected accusations in the social media that Datuk Roger Chin will become pro-government and lose his neutrality upon appointment.

He said given his dedicated service then as the SLS Chairman and his success in building a team of lawyers to fight for the state 40% entitlement, Datuk Roger Chin would have been appointed by any Chief Minister who win the recent Sabah election.

"The notion that an experienced and dedicated leader will compromise their principles simply by serving in a formal capacity is misguided," he emphasized.

"We should be actively seeking to appoint more brilliant NGO leaders into various governmental capacities. This is the surest way to strengthen governance by integrating diverse, expert, and critical voices directly into the legislative and advisory frameworks."

Henrynus concluded by urging the public and all stakeholders to give Datuk Roger Chin a chance to prove his worth and to cease unwarranted criticism of his appointment. His track record and expertise suggest his capacity to contribute significantly to Sabah's interests regarding MA63 is profound.
