KOTA KINABALU: Two villages - Kampung Rimbayan in Keningau and Kampung Simpang 3A in Merotai Besar, Tawau - will be placed under a fortnight of enhanced movement control order (EMCO) starting tomorrow.

The implementation was decided due to a rise in Covid-19 cases with high infection rate among the community in the two localities, said Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Masidi Manjun in his statement today.

For the Kampung Ribayan cluster in Keningau, a total of 301 individuals have undergone screening test as of March 31, with 29 of them found positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, a total of 12 individuals were screened in Kampung Simpang 3A in Merotai Besar, Tawau, where seven of them tested positive and four more awaiting test results.

"After a joint risk assessment with various agencies in the MCO Technical Committee and upon the advice of the Ministry of Health (MoH), the state government has agreed to implement EMCO in these two areas starting April 2 to April 15.

"The EMCO will allow the health ministry to conduct a targeted screening of the residents in the localities to control the spread of the virus within the community," he said.
