TWO NEW COVID-19 CLUSTERS DETECTED IN KK, SEMPORNA

KOTA KINABALU: Two new Covid-19 clusters have emerged in Sabah today, one each in Kota Kinabalu and Semporna, with a cumulative total of 23 cases.


The Kebagu cluster in Kota Kinabalu was first detected in SK Kebagu involving a 53-year-old teacher, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.



"She tested positive through symptomatic screening at a private clinic on May 3.


"A total of 281 close contacts comprising teachers, staff and students of the school have undergone screening with eight of the tests came back positive," he said in a statement today.


Masidi added that the cluster has a cumulative total of 15 cases to date which also involved the teacher's family members.


Meanwhile, the Tanjung Kapor cluster in Semporna is a community cluster that was first detected on a 31-year-old pregnant lady.


"On May 9, the index case experienced muscle ache below her abdomen and was then brought to Semporna Hospital However, she tested positive through a pre-admittance screening.


"Close contact screening found seven of her family members to have contracted the virus, bringing the cumulative total in the cluster to eight cases.
