KOTA KINABALU: Thirteen tourism products in Sabah have been certified under the My2K quality assurance scheme, which recognises excellence in visitor experience, safety, facilities and sustainable practices.

Ibrahim Othman, Director OF Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Sabah said the certification was introduced in 2020 and revised in 2022 with new elements and criteria, is valid for three years.

At the end of each term, products are re-evaluated to ensure they continue to meet the required standards, he said

"The assessment is based on 11 criteria, including visitor safety, available facilities, sustainable growth, contribution to local communities through corporate social responsibility (CSR), and the overall well-being of staff. Products are also judged on their environmental practices, health standards, and the overall quality of the visitor experience," he said.

“We are confident that all certified product owners are offering the best possible services and experiences to their clients,” he added .

“This certification helps to assure both domestic and international tourists of the quality they can expect.”

While Sabah currently has 13 certified products, the state remains among the highest-ranking in Malaysia for My2K certifications.

He expressed hope that as more products come forward, greater recognition will be given to other destinations and operators.
