SANDAKAN: The community of the Gum-Gum constituency received a visit from Nominated State Assemblyman , Datuk Jaffari Waliam, who met with residents from several villages in the area.
In a special programme held yesterday, Jaffari began his visit in Kampung Semawang, Gum-Gum, where he distributed building materials such as zinc sheets and plywood to residents in need, to help repair their dilapidated homes.
He also oversaw the distribution of 60 food baskets to selected households as part of efforts to ease the burden on low-income families in the area.

“Programmes like this are not just about handing out aid , they are a reflection of our care and responsibility towards the people. We want to ensure that no group is left behind,” he emphasised when met after the event.
After completing his visit to Semawang, Jaffari continued on to Kampung Bim-Bim, where he personally inspected and followed up on several public complaints and issues previously raised with his office.
“I take note of every concern raised. God willing, we will review each one carefully and refer them to the relevant agencies for prompt and effective action,” he said, assuring that follow-up measures would be taken in the near future.
A day earlier, Jaffari also held a special programme in Kampung Sungai Beruang, where he presented materials to upgrade the village’s multi-purpose hall, a step towards supporting the development of basic infrastructure in the area.
This ground engagement programme clearly reinforces the state leadership’s commitment to improving the well-being of the people, particularly in rural areas that often face challenges related to infrastructure and development access.
“It is also in line with the aspirations of the State Government through the Sabah Maju Jaya roadmap and the Sabah First agenda, which emphasise an inclusive, proactive and people-centred approach.
“As long as I am entrusted with this responsibility, I will remain among the people, listening and taking action,” Jaffari assured.
