RANAU: The plight of a 62-year-old woman with disabilities and homeless for 42 years, has finally received attention and assistance from Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, during a recent community outreach programme in Kampung Merungin 2.
Musiah Kungkudu, believed to have become homeless after going missing, was found living by a staircase at a guesthouse in Ranau. She has since been reunited with her family in Kampung Merungin.
The woman, who was divorced by her husband and has an adopted child, is no longer supported by the child. She suffers from a disability affecting her left leg and can only walk with the aid of a walking stick. She currently lives in a dilapidated house in the village.
Due to her condition, Musiah is unable to work and relies entirely on her family, who are subsistence farmers.
Moved by her situation, Dr Joachim, who is also the State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Kundasang, visited Musiah along with the women's wing of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Kundasang Division. They provided her with essential items such as a mattress and food supplies.
During the visit, Dr Joachim also announced a special allocation for the repair and refurbishment of Musiah’s house, to help her live in safer and more comfortable conditions.
Earlier in the same programme, Dr Joachim met with residents of Kampung Kazing, where he delivered a message of encouragement and appreciation to his supporters in the area. He also received membership forms from new PBS members in the village.
He expressed his gratitude to one of the local villagers who offered their home to serve as a PBS operations centre for the upcoming State Election.
The programme continued with the distribution of water pipes to residents of Kampung Daramakon as part of efforts to improve the village’s water supply infrastructure.
Additionally, Dr Joachim took part in a lively Family Day celebration with the Kampung Lampaki community held at the Dolungan Campsite Recreational Park.
In his speech, Dr Joachim welcomed the new members who joined PBS, with membership forms handed over by community representatives.
The family event was further enlivened with fun-filled activities such as traditional games and a lucky draw.
Dr Joachim extended his thanks to all parties who made the programme a success, including those who contributed vegetables from the highlands of Kundasang during his visits to several villages.
